The date, 15th of August from 1947 in India has become a very important day in the Indian history. On this day, we achieved our freedom from the British rule after about 200 years of slavery. Thus, Independence Day is celebrated every year on 15th of August.
The 70th Independence Day was celebrated at RIET. The Institute congregated to pay tribute and remember all the freedom fighters and their contribution for the Liberation of our country. The program started with the hoisting of National Flag by Principal RIET (Prof) Dr Saroj Hiranwal. All the heads, teachers & students saluted the flag and sang in unison the National Anthem. Md. Tarique Rahman B.Tech. III Yr CSE shared his views on the significance of the day. The Principal delivered a short speech, in the remembrance of the supreme sacrifice the great martyrs gave for the sake of freedom, and also mentioned that the freedom is very precious and it is very necessary to preserve it. Dean Academics, Prof Kapil Dev Sharma, spoke on the significance of the historic day. He motivated the students to become ideal citizens of the country.
This program progressed with the Cultural Program, Patriotic Poems and Songs by the students. Students also presented Group Dance and a Skit. Aditya and group from first year B.Tech. demonstrated a skit on Judo for self-defense of women. Tree plantation ceremony was also held on this day. The RIETians pledged to keep the environment healthy and green by planting more and more trees. Principal RIET (Prof) Dr Saroj Hiranwal and Dean Academics, Prof Kapil Dev Sharma along with all the faculty members and students participated in this ceremony. The programme awakened a patriotic feeling and exhilaration in the hearts and minds of all present, which was indeed exemplary.
The event concluded up with the vote of thanks by Ms Manisha Agarwal, Asst Prof, Dept. of Physics. In the end, sweets were distributed among all.
