The department of applied sciences is the Pioneer Department of the Institute since 2000. The department offers academic programs prescribed by the Rajasthan Technical University in the subjects Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, & English. The department was set up to cater to the academic requirements of B.Tech students. The department has highly qualified and motivated faculty members. They keep themselves update with the latest innovation and technology. The faculty of applied sciences department is very curious towards their continuous learning and update to the technological changes. They participate in various career development programs like seminars, conferences, workshops and research paper presentations etc.

PROMINENT LABS IN THE DEPARTMENT
Communication Technique Lab: To help students nurture communication skills, the department has a fully functional state-of-the-art communication technique lab. Language soft wares are installed which deal with modules that complement classroom teaching with practical examples. The state-of-the-art digital language lab uses Globarena English lab plus software solution for teaching and learning in a computer classroom. The lab is designed to operate in a LAN environment with 32 DELL 4 nodes and a dedicated multimedia server. The communication skills lab has a power backup and Internet facility.

Physics & Chemistry lab: The department of chemistry was set up to cater to the academic requirements of B.Tech I & II semester students. The Department of Physics & Chemistry defines its mission in the context of academic excellence, scientific rigor, and scientific integrity. The department has a spacious and well-equipped laboratory with sufficient instruments and apparatus to meet the requirements of the syllabus. The laboratory is assisted by an experienced lab assistant.

The Applied Sciences Department is the Pioneer Department of the Institute. It has a team of highly qualified, dedicated and competent faculty members. All Laboratories are well equipped to cater to the needs of I Year B. Tech. students. The number of students grew in leaps and bounds year after year, after its existence of more than one decade. It has been creating technical leaders in the field of technology since 2000. It provides the platform to the students to meet the challenges of Engineering by inculcating discipline and life skills. It cultivates scientific temper among student fraternity by inspiring and keeping them acquainted with recent trends in the field of Science, Technology and Research. It has established Under Graduate Research Wing in which interested, motivated and innovative students do their projects. Faculty members also participate in workshops, seminars and to do their research work and paper publications in referred journals. We focus on certain parameters for enhancing the technical skills of our students. The methodology we adopt for this purpose is constituted under following points:

BATCH COUNSELOR:

It is very good concept by which we govern the all activities of our students. In this one batch counselor is confined or assigned students. These students are the sole responsibility of that particular batch counselor to guide them, help, advise, suggest and solve their problems any how. He/ she have to play the role of parents, teacher, friends and helps to achieve his/ her desired goals or dreams in reality.

REGULAR MONITORING OF ATTENDANCE:
We increase the attendance of the students in classes by checking their attendance of each period. We maintain the attendance centrally and check the differences and find out those students who were presents in only limited periods. Then trace them and call their parents so that it can be never repeated in future.

UNIT TEST CONCEPT:
We are very keen to uplift the academic performances of the students in RTU examinations. So that it is the concept of unit test after the completion of each unit of each subject we centrally conduct the unit test of that particular unit and evaluate them properly within stipulated time and inform to parents also.

We organize the remedial classes for those students whose performance is not satisfactory in the test.

MODEL TEST PAPERS CONCEPT:
It is the concept of the college that the model test papers will be given to the students for the assignment so that they can be familiar with the pattern and standard of RTU exams.

SCIENCE PROJECT ASSIGNMENTS:
Basic Science Projects have been assigned to all students in group and individually also. These projects are based on their curriculum so that they will be benefited by doing them.

SCOPE

Applied science is a bridge that connects pure, basic science like physics or chemistry with engineering practices. Faculty and students in applied science employ fundamental physical and chemical principles to create innovative new technologies. These novel solutions are then handed off to engineering disciplines to be refined, enhanced and used to address important societal problems.Engineering is the application of mathematics and scientific, economic, social, and practical knowledge in order to invent, innovate, design, build, maintain, research, and improve structures, machines, tools, systems, components, materials, processes, solutions, and organizations.

The discipline of engineering is extremely broad and encompasses a range of more specialized fields of engineering, each with a more specific emphasis on particular areas of applied science, technology and types of application.There exists an overlap between the sciences and engineering practice; in engineering, one applies science. Both areas of endeavor rely on accurate observation of materials and phenomena. Both use mathematics and classification criteria to analyze and communicate observations.

The various Branches of Engineering Like Civil Engineering., Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering etc. needs the foundation of Physics, Mathematics & Chemistry. Thus for each of these fields, there exists considerable overlap, especially in the areas of the application of fundamental sciences to their disciplines such as physics, chemistry, and mathematics. As a result, there are many different types of engineering degrees available.

ENGINEERING CHEMISTRY LAB

The engineering chemistry lab is neatly designed, spacious, ventilated with store room for safe keeping of explosive and corrosive chemicals and well equipped with various instruments like red wood viscometer, pensky martin apparatus, muffle furnace, bomb calorimeter etc. All experiments prescribed by RTU have been planned in such a manner that each student can perform single experiment independently. This lab develops the awareness in the students for environmental and technological implications of chemistry and develops skills in scientific investigations.

COMMUNICATION TECHNIQUE LAB

To help students nurture communication skills, to involve students to actively participate in language learning exercise, the department has a fully functional state-of –the –art communication techniques lab. The lab caters to the development of communication and soft skills of the students ensuring the growth, grooming in the minds of learners. The communication techniques lab is very useful for aessing student’s speech. It provides students with the technical tools to get the best samples of pronunciation of the language. The lab state-of –the –art digital language lab uses Grammar Fundamental, English Techniques and Phonology lab plus software solution for teaching and learning in computer classroom. The lab is designed to operate in a Lan environment with 32 Dell 4 nodes and a dedicated multimedia server. The communication lab has a power backup and internet facility.

The communication Techniques Lab in general offers the following:

  • Text, images, audio and video can easily be integrated: teachers can alter materials to fit their requirements
  • Learners can record their own voice and play back the recordings, interact with each other and the teacher, and store the results.
  • Teachers can intervene and control the learner’s computers via the teacher’s console, track of learner’s work, etc.

Common components in Communication Techniques Lab:

  • Teacher has a computer with appropriate software for conducting language exercises
  • Teacher and students wear headsets that block outside sounds and disturbances.
  • Students have a recorder for listening to audio and recording speech
  • Teacher and student’s positions are connected via LAN (Local area network).

PHYSICS LAB

The department of Physics is set up to cater to the academic requirements of B.Tech I & II semester students. The Department of Physics defines its mission in the context of academic excellence, scientific rigor, and scientific integrity. The department has a spacious, well-equipped and fully ventilated laboratory with sufficient instruments and apparatus to meet the requirements of the syllabus. Physics lab is divided into two segments – one is the dark room which is related with experiments of optics and the second one is general lab for electronics and electrical experiments. The experiments are designed in such a manner so that students can understand the concept and working principle of those experiments, the faculty members motivates students to learn the concepts with hands on exposure. The laboratory is assisted by an experienced faculty and lab assistant.
